From American Overlook

Ever since Barbara Walters left the popular daytime talk show The View and Rosie O’Donnell and Whoopi Goldberg signed on as hosts, the show has seen a significant drop in ratings.

It looks like ABC can no longer sustain these falling ratings as it was just revealed that ABC may be cancelling The View. Fans of the show have Rosie and Whoopi to thank for the demise of this popular show that ran successfully for 18 seasons previously.

“ABC feels it’s exhausted their options with The View and now it’s time to expand the existing franchise, GMA. They feel that since GMA is already beating NBC’s Today during the first two hours of the broadcast, why not extend the morning broadcast,” the source continued.

Apparently, ABC is strongly considering cancelling the show and replacing it with an extra hour of popular morning show Good Morning America. “The brass at ABC feels like they’ve tried to do everything possible to breathe new life into this show,” a reliable source at ABC said. The same source goes on to say in reference to ABC that “They’re ready to abandon ship at this point.”

“The idea to bring back Good Afternoon America is something that’s strongly being considered. They believe the success of GMA could carry over right into that 11am slot thatThe View currently holds,” another insider said.

The show could end as soon as after this current season is over, which is not good for Rosie O’Donnell, whose $4 million contract expires at the end of this year. However, Whoopi Goldberg’s $5 million contract does not expire until the end of next year. This means that Whoopi will paid even if the show doesn’t continue, while Rosie will not. This could also be a costly option for ABC should they decide to cancel the show.

“Whoopi is the winner either way. She’s wanted out of this contract for years and begged to be let go during the show overhaul last summer. To get paid to just go home would make her very happy,” one source said.

Rosie has been known for her outlandish claims and conspiracy theories such as this one that she feels she can discuss freely on the show.
