Think of all of the things that you can’t do without electricity, fuel (including heating fuel and gasoline), cell phones, and water. You can’t get to work. In fact, work probably doesn’t exist anymore without energy. If it does, you can’t drive there for long because there is no gasoline.

In a nightmare scenario, which is much closer to reality than to a horror movie, stores will be closed, there will be no internet or cell phone communications, transportation by planes, trains, and even automobiles will be a fond memory as gas stations will be closed, there will be no clean water supply, food will rot in our refrigerators and freezers, and hospitals will operate on their emergency generators for as long as possible, which isn’t long. If such a disaster occurs in the winter, many of us will be without heat. Millions will die.

Few of us are prepared for a scenario like this, and terrorists know it, which makes America’s super-soft electric grid a “prime target,” as DHS describes it, further identifying the probability of a terrorist attack on America’s electric grid as a “profound threat.”

It would be wise to take stock of your level of preparedness. Check the pantry and refrigerator. How long can your family survive on what is there? How long will your on-hand drinking water supply last? Consider buying a generator and storing enough fuel to operate it for two weeks, the minimum time DHS recommends you prepare for (I recommend doubling that to four weeks). Do you have a backup heat source? How will you handle such a crisis? Think outside the box.

A final word of advice: Do NOT depend on the government. You are on your own now. Be prepared! Your family is depending on it.

From Washington Examiner

In a new DHS report that warns that the electric grid is the “prime target” of terrorists, Americans are being urged prepare for the up to six months without electricity, transportation, fuel, money and healthcare.

“People no longer keep enough essentials within their homes, reducing their ability to sustain themselves during an extended, prolonged outage. We need to improve individual preparedness,” said a just-published report to President Trump.

“There needs to be more individual accountability for preparedness,” adds the report, “Surviving a Catastrophic Power Outage,” from the President’s National Infrastructure Advisory Council and published by the Department of Homeland Security.

It looked at the potential of a power outage of up to six months and recommended Americans have enough supplies on hand for a minimum 14 days, a standard for some prepper organizations.

“Build a Culture of Preparedness includes objectives to incentivize investments that reduce risk, including pre-disaster mitigation; closing the insurance gap; helping people prepare for disasters; and better learn from past disasters, improve continuously, and innovate,” said a key recommendation.
