Maybe I’m crazy (no “maybe” about it, my wife snarky claims), but I can only see one thing driving the mainstream media’s foaming-at-the-mouth, anti-Trump agenda.
The ratings for the members of the Alphabet Network Club generally suck compared to Fox News. Thus, their advertising revenue likely sucks proportionately.
So, how are the fake news Trump-hate network news organizations paying the bills? Could it be payola from the Democrat Party and its backers? The entire beltway globalist establishment? Nefarious scumbags like George Soros? All of the above?
Nah, that could never happen, right?
Former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) claimed Tuesday that “the damage the news media is doing to the United States is despicable” while calling to shutter the White House press briefing room, reports The Hill.
“I am personally offended by the American news media,” Gingrich told Politico. “I think it is destructive and disgusting. It is a danger to the country right now.”
Gingrich reiterated his call for President Trump to “close down the White House press briefing room” and let “the American people” question White House press secretary Sean Spicer.
He added that closing the press briefing room would show that “the media is a corrupt institution and [Trump] is tired of being harassed by people whose only interest is making him look bad.”
Trump suggested last week that he might cancel “all future ‘press briefings’” in the name of accuracy following controversy over his administration’s shifting account over the circumstances of Trump’s firing of FBI Director James Comey.
Trump undercut the official White House narrative last week that he acted on the recommendation of senior Justice Department officials in firing Comey, telling NBC News that he would have fired the FBI director “regardless” of the recommendation.
“As a very active President with lots of things happening, it is not possible for my surrogates to stand at podium with perfect accuracy!” he tweeted. “Maybe the best thing to do would be to cancel all future ‘press briefings’ and hand out written responses for the sake of accuracy???”
Trump then suggested in an interview with Fox News that he might end White House press briefings unless he performs them himself every two weeks.
“We don’t have press conferences, we just don’t have them, unless I have them every two weeks and I do them myself,” he said. “I think it’s a good idea.”
Trump has repeatedly clashed with news media, labeling unfavorable coverage of his administration “fake news.”
