The Nation contributor Jeremy Scahill says he’s now working with Glenn Greenwald, the Rio de Janeiro-based journalist who has written stories about U.S. surveillance programs based on documents leaked by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden.
Scahill is the author of “Dirty Wars,” about the assassinations program. He said their joint project focuses “how the National Security Agency plays a significant, central role on the U.S. assassination program,” but didn’t provide many other details.
Greenwald is best known as the journalist to whom NSA leaker Edward Snowden first leaked many of the NSA’s secrets. In August 2013, Police detained Greenwald’s life partner at London’s Heathrow Airport under Schedule 7 of the Terrorism Act 2000, while he was travelling home from Berlin, carrying work that related to classified U.S. government documents to Greenwald in Brazil.
Greenwald described his partner’s detention as “clearly intended to send a message of intimidation to those of us who have been reporting on the NSA…”
