Is New York City the capital of the United States again? Is Trump Tower the new White House?

President-elect Donald Trump is considering running the country from Trump Tower, which would obviously be a “security nightmare” with so much uncontrolled activity happening in the area 24/7.

It would also have a negative impact on commerce in the area, in my opinion, as security concerns would reduce traffic in the area in an effort to protect President Trump.

The plan currently under consideration by the President-elect is to work from the White House on weekdays, and fly home on weekends. The Trump family will also likely spend a good bit of time at their Mar-a-Lago mansion in Florida.

According to The Telegraph, Donald Trump may eschew the lure of the White House and spend much of his time as president at his $100 million penthouse in New York.

During the campaign the billionaire would often fly back late at night to his home in Trump Tower from wherever he was on the trail.

The Secret Service has already strongly suggested that he should move full time to the White House with agents describing the prospect of protecting him in New York as a security nightmare.

Mr Trump currently lives there with wife Melania and 10-year-old son Barron in a gilded three-floor apartment designed in the style of Louis XIV overlooking Central Park.

He has been there for three decades and has frequently talked about how much he loves it.

Mr Trump once said: “Building this unit, if you look at the columns and the carvings, was harder than building the building itself.”

But when he met President Barack Obama at the White House he also took time to look at that building and was said by aides to have liked the neoclassical architecture, the New York Times reported.

Having run as an outsider candidate determined to “drain the Washington swamp” Mr Trump is said to be reluctant to spend all his time in the capital.

It is possible he may spend weekdays in the White House, returning to Trump Tower or his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida at weekends.

The moving of his family to the White House is complicated by the fact that Barron is part way through a school year in New York.

Mr Obama moved in to the White House the day after his inauguration despite his daughters being in school in Chicago.

Security has already been beefed up at Trump Tower since the billionaire won the Republican nomination with people entering the building having to show identification.
