Huh? One day the RNC is engineering an anti-Trump coup, then the next they are delivering good news. According to RNC Rules Committee member, Randy Evans, “If Donald Trump exceeds 1,100 votes, he will become the nominee.” Are the good ol’ boys at the RNC schizophrenic or did it suddenly dawn on them that suicide is painful and final?

Here is the language that worries me: “And then in the middle, there’s that gray area between 1,000 and 1,100, and that’s where the unbound delegates or the delegates that have been released by other candidates come into play to see if there are enough of those to get either Cruz or Trump over the finish line.”

Short of more Colorado-style shenanigans, I see no way Trump doesn’t make it to 1,100. However, The Donald leads The Canadian right now 743 delegates to 545. If we wind up in that gray area between 1,000 and 1,100, Cruz will still be only a couple hundred, maybe three hundred delegates behind. If Kasich and Rubio swing their delegates to Cruz, it becomes a nightmarish free-for-all. Trump must keep pushing for 1,237 delegates, and be sure he gets at least 1,100.

New York is the next primary state, and Trump is leading Cruz there 54% to 18% (RCP), and the Canadian’s trajectory is on a steady glide path to hell. If The Donald maintains that lead, he will take all of New York’s 95 delegates.
