NEW YORK – Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., says there’s one reason for the flood of illegal aliens, especially children, sweeping over Texas, Arizona and other parts of the American southwest: “What we have now is a lawless border.”

And he said there’s one person responsible: Barack Obama.

“President Obama’s executive orders and promises have provided a beacon for more illegal immigrants to get to the United States,” he told WND. “The president bears the brunt of the blame of the current humanitarian crisis of border crossings by thousands of unaccompanied children.”

As WND reported last week, Paul, following a controversial teleconference with the press hosted by the anti-tax activist Grover Norquist, issued a statement that while he favors immigration reform legislation, he considers securing the border to be a first requirement.

“The president needs to secure the border now and stop making statements that have provided motivation for people to send their unaccompanied children to the United States,” he wrote.

His call for increased border security comes as various border security activists who arranged a volunteer Minuteman presence on the U.S. border with Mexico during the second term of President George W. Bush are once again preparing to issue a new call for Minutemen to return to the border.

Jim Gilchrist, organizer of The Minuteman Project, told WND he believes he can bring back to the border the same type of Minuteman presence he brought to the border with Mexico in 2005 and 2006.

The Center for Immigration Studies in Washington, D.C., released this week a draft memo from a top Border Patrol official who expressed alarm the Obama administration’s open borders policy will continue luring unaccompanied minors to come to the United States through 2015.

The memo, attributed to Ronald V. Vitiello, deputy chief of the Border Patrol, includes revised estimates from Department of Homeland Security officials for Fiscal Year 2014, when the Border Patrol expects to catch more than 90,000 minors crossing the border without parents, up from a previous estimate of 74,000. That the surge will increase further in 2015 to 142,000, up from the previous projection of 114,000.

Photos released by the office of Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Texas, to Business Insider show unaccompanied minors in custody in a ICE facility in south Texas, with children and teenagers crammed into a room with no provisions for sleeping accommodations. At least one of the photographs shows a teenage immigrant displaying rashes that Cuellar’s office reported as either scabies or chickenpox.

WND reported Monday that Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, is actively exploring heading a congressional delegation to the border in Texas and Arizona with the goal of visiting the detention centers DHS is using to hold the thousands of children and teenagers coming across the border from Central America.

“I’m afraid President Obama is going to do nothing to secure our border with Mexico,” King told WND.

King argued Obama has manufactured the crisis in a Cloward-Piven attempt to overload the social welfare system with an illegal immigration crisis, with the intent of causing the current immigration system to crash and burn so it can be replaced with an open-border reform of immigration laws.

In the 1960s, professors Richard Cloward and Francis Fox Piven of Columbia University, Obama’s alma mater, devised a plan to provoke chaos by deliberately overwhelming governmental systems and the U.S. economy to the point of collapse, paving the way for state intervention that would ultimately replace America’s free-enterprise republic with a collectivist system.

“If this isn’t part of the president’s strategy, he is completely and utterly incompetent as an administrator,” King said.

“You could get a small town mayor and put him in the White House and twenty minutes later he’d be on the phone solving the problem.”

King stressed that this crisis is a crisis the White House intends to create.

“This situation on the border is not intractable,” he said. “It is caused by the president of the United States of America. President Obama is engaging in the willful destruction of the rule of law. President Obama has intentionally erased our southern border and the White House is sending messages down to Central America advertising to come here now.”

Minutemen to the border

William Gheen, president of Americans for Legal Immigration PAC, or ALIPAC, has issued a call for Minutemen to gather on the southern border on July 4, in what Gheen is calling “Operation American Shield.”

On the home page of the ALIPAC website, Gheen notes, “Our goal is to force the national media to report on this new crisis being orchestrated by politicians inside of America. We are also going to demand that the governors of Texas, Arizona, New Mexico and California order their state national guards to the border to block all illegal entries immediately.”

Gheen stressed to WND his Operation American Shield will be modeled after the type of peaceful Minuteman presence on the border successfully staged by ALIPAC and separately by Jim Gilchrist’s Minuteman Project during the Bush administration.

“When the Minuteman Project went to the U.S.-Mexico Border in 2005, it was proven that citizen volunteers could secure sections of the border from illegal traffic,” Gheen stressed.

“Furthermore, illegal crossings in all sections of the border slowed and stopped in reaction to the presence of civilian watchdog groups. In Washington, D.C., politicians were forced to focus more attention on border security instead of trying to pass immigration reform amnesty that would permanently destroy America’s borders.”
