NEW YORK (WABC) — Federal officials have released details about the dozens of illegal immigrants arrested in the New York City area during a multi-state sweep last week.
The series of arrests prompted concerns in several immigrant communities.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials arrested 41 people in the five boroughs and surrounding areas. Of those, 38 had criminal convictions.
Here’s a breakdown of where the arrests occurred:
– New York City: 22
– Long Island: 14
– Rockland County, NY: 2
– Orange County, NY: 2
– Putnam County, NY: 1
The immigrants arrested were previously convicted of crimes ranging from rapes and sex assaults, including of children, to robberies, burglaries and larcenies. Some were convicted of driving while intoxicated.
The list revealed the immigrants hailed from a wide cross section of countries in Central America and from Mexico.
