Illegal Immigrant Charged With Rape, Sodomy Of 10-Year-Old Alabama Girl
An illegal immigrant was arrested Monday in Alabama after sexually assaulting a young girl.
According to reports, Ramiro Ajualip, a 27-year-old who entered the country illegally, was accused earlier this week of raping a 10-year-old girl on Feb. 27 while he was living with the child’s family.
Ajualip was charged with first-degree rape and first-degree sodomy, which are both Class A felonies in Alabama and carry with them sentences ranging from 10 years to life in prison with parole a possibility if convicted, according to a local report.
“From the information we have received, he has been here about four weeks,” Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett said. “He is undocumented, was a friend of the family and was actually living in the home where the child was.”
As of Tuesday, Franklin County District Attorney Joey Rushing claimed Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) had not put a hold on Ajualip.
If ICE were to put a hold Ajualip and moved to a deportation center, he could be sent back to his native country without incurring any punishment for the crime committed.
“If they bond them out, then the ICE hold immediately takes on, and they’ll call ICE and a lot of times take them on to the processing center – even though they have these pending criminal charges,” Rushing told WSFA-12, the local NBC affiliate in Central Alabama. “In fact, there’s been several times where a person has ended up getting deported before they ever faced the charges… they are actually removed and put into their home country, never to have to face justice for the victim or anything else.”
According to the police chief, the young girl did not come forward right away with the information of the rape due to threats Ajualip made, but was taken to a local hospital immediately after her parents found out. The child was ultimately taken for treatment to Children’s Hospital of Birmingham.
“You know, a 10-year-old child that probably has no idea what’s really going on,” Hargett explained. “It’s sad because now that child is going to be scarred for the rest of her life.”
Ajualip eventually admitted to committing the rape to investigators.
